Berry Island Cultural & Food Sampling Tour

Time: 1.00pm - 3.00pm Fee: A$35 per person Hidden in the heart of Sydney Harbour is an island that was visited by the Cammarayagal people for many thousands of years. Berry Island was a gathering place for food gathering and preparation. Participants will be given a guided tour of the Gadyan Track by two descendants of the people from this land, see and sample bush foods, kitchen sites, carved recipes, middens and other points of interest. At the end of the walking track, participants will sample Aboriginal bush bread and native jams. Wear sturdy walking shoes, and be prepared for rain.

Professor Aunty Kerrie Doyle is the Associate Dean, Indigenous Health in Western Sydney University’s School of Medicine. A Winninninni/Cadigal/Irish woman, Professor Doyle was one of the first Indigenous women to graduate from Oxford University. She is also the Chair and Research Lead of the Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Clinical Academic Group at Maridulu Budyari Gumal, the Sydney Partnership for Health, Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE); member of the Council of Elders for the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives (CATSINaM); and board member for Ngaramura Aboriginal, Maori and Pacific Islander Corporation. Her research interests include: education, promoting applied cultural proficiency research, social determinants of health and Indigenous health.
